Town School Talk Week 4 Term 2 2022

Creative Enrichment

Creative Enrichment

Ms Marple is loving the incredible opportunity to teach her Creatively High Potential and Gifted Students the art of etching and printing. The students have worked for weeks, first exploring cultural designs and then using these to give inspiration to their own masterful artworks. They then worked through the process of etching their designs and using these to make prints. Taiykeah Welsh’s representation of an emu surrounded by stars is exquisite. Ms Marple can’t wait to enrich these students further in an upcoming excursion to Tamworth where they will explore the link between language, culture and custom.

NAPLAN

This week sees the completion of NAPLAN assessments for our Year 3 and 5 students. They have shown such resilience and determination to give each assessment a red hot go and our staff could not have been prouder of all students! These assessments are but one point of reference our school uses to check that our students are making progress towards their syllabus targets. The results will be analysed at whole school and stage levels to determine areas that require addressing at a whole-class level, while also helping to tailor our groupings and learning goals in our learning and support groups. We look forward to sharing the outcome from these assessments with our families.

Drama Club

Our beloved Drama Club is back in full swing this term. Each Monday, selected students quickly eat some afternoon tea and get changed, ready to participate in the exciting and engaging drama workshops that our team of volunteer staff have designed.  Students remain for the hour after school, learning about taking on character roles, projecting their voices, role-playing, along with many other fun, challenging and engaging activities. We can’t wait for our students to share their theatrical skills with the world.

Stage 1 get sporty

Stage 1 get sporty

Stage 1 have enjoyed participating in the Fundamental Movement Program delivered by Shona at Platform & Co Fitness. Each week, our Stage 1 students workshop different skills that they will  master to become confident when playing a variety of sports. Learning to throw and catch with both hands, dodge, weave, sprint, hop and leap are just some of the many skills they will work on during their sessions. There were many laughs of frustrated joy as our 1/2K students threw a tennis ball back and forth, first with their right hand, and then with their left, increasing their distance each time. We definitely have some very agile and confident sportspeople in our Stage 1 cohort!
