Town School Talk Week 5 Term 2

On Tuesday 14th June, Stage 3 students were accompanied by Miss Kelaher to the Crossing Theatre to compete in the annual North West Science and Engineering Challenge Discovery Day. 32 excited students worked in teams of 4 to take on a range of challenges. They built a water wheel, designed and a Mars buggy, constructed an earthquake proof structure, and planned efficient transport networks to link towns, just to name a few. The pinnacle as always was the bridge buster, where groups had to design a bridge that can take increasing amounts of weight. Ben Taylor, William Stuart, Grace Lennox and Aida Renaud survived the challenge achieving full points with their unbreakable bridge. Overall, Narrabri Public School placed second and all students were commended on their exemplary behaviour and sportsmanship.

Scientific 6F

Scientific 6F

During Term 2, 6F have been working with Mrs Charlton to investigate the power of the sun. They designed and created a solar oven device to harness the power of the sun to melt marshmallows and chocolate buds. They not only needed to research and carefully consider the design aspects of a solar oven. They also needed to select a prime location for placing their solar ovens. Measurements were taken using a ruler and measuring the diameter of the object they had selected to test. They were investigating the rate of success using the rate of melting. By adhering to the scientific method, students reviewed the measurements and observational data and made conclusions based on their findings. Due to weather conditions, the students decided to retest their ovens during Term 4, making recommendations about alterations to processes and procedures. The highlight of the whole experience was of course eating the testing materials at the end!

2C Assembly

Last Wednesday, 2C presented the first Infants assembly for 2022. They wowed their audience with their amazing presentation skills and it was clear that they had taken a lot of pride preparing for the occasion. After awards were presented and reports were delivered, 2C put on their very own Reader’s Theatre, developed as part of their recent rich text study on The Day the Crayons Quit. Various students took on speaking and non-speaking roles, acting out the persuasive banter of the story, with yellow and orange continuing to argue over who is really the colour of the sun. There was such humour and the script was so well-delivered that they left their audience in stitches. Kindergarten received the coveted Tidy Room award and 1/2K shone as the recipients of the Green Leaf award. Nurry Teddy made his first appearance for the year, consulting with Mrs Young and awarding 1S with the assembly award after they sat attentively being respectful listeners. Well done 2C, you were truly amazing.
