Town School Talk Week 6 Term 2 2022

Reconciliation Week

Reconciliation Week

Reconciliation Week

This year’s empowering message: ‘Be Brave, Make Change’, embodies the sense of social responsibility and awareness that we foster in our students. This year Reconciliation Week couldn’t have been timelier, as in the lead up to our country’s elections, our Stage 3 students have been learning about the history of the vote. The commencement of Reconciliation Week, last Friday 27th May, signifies the anniversary of the 1967 referendum where more than 90% of Australia’s population voted to ensure Aboriginal people have a voice in our democratic election process. Throughout this week, our staff and students will work together to understand where we are on our path to reconciliation, being brave while facing how we will contribute to making the changes necessary to achieve reconciliation for all people. Through story-telling, art, song, historical exploration and shared experiences, we will immerse our school community to develop greater awareness and understanding. The conclusion of Reconciliation Week on Friday will be celebrated with an Elders and Community Members Morning Tea, where student representatives will have an opportunity to speak with people that aspire to make change. We look forward to sharing our week’s experiences with our school community via our social media and website outlets.

Rewarding our Students

Rewarding our Students

Each week, our students celebrate their ongoing adherence to our Core Values of Respect, Responsibility, Resilience, Achievement and Inclusion, through our weekly raffle ticket draws. These tickets then contribute to our school-wide achievement of reward experiences that benefit all students. Last Friday, our school reached yet another milestone in this program, with students putting so many tickets into the tower that they reached the line for a disco. The theme was ‘Neon and Glow’, and each student received a glow stick to join in the festive occasion. Students brought a neon accessory and boogied to the beat, along with our wonderfully enthusiastic staff. We congratulate our students on all the hard work put into achieving this milestone and look forward to our next celebration!

Rugby Success

Last Monday, a group of 7 Stage 3 boys attended the PSSA rugby trials in Armidale. They accompanied Miss Cox, participating in a range of warm up games followed by a series of 15-a-side games where they put their best foot forward, vying for selection to trial for the Southern Area North West rugby team. All seven boys played with exceptional skill and sportsmanship, and five were selected to the trial in Tamworth. Lachlan Coffey, Lincoln Saunders, Hunter Barrett, Gus Ford and Lochlan Mc Millan were selected to progress to the next level, playing in Tamworth last Friday. Congratulations to Lachlan Coffey, Hunter Barett and Gus Ford for being selected to play in the Southern Area North West team. These students are sure to make the most of this opportunity. We commend all boys that participated in the selection process. They represented Narrabri Public School with respect and resilience, striving to achieve their personal best at each step.
