Our extra-curricular highlights
Breakfast Club
On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8:30 am to 9:00 am, students can enjoy toast and toasted egg sandwiches. Watsons Bakery kindly supplies the bread, and we thank them for their ongoing support. Winanga-Li also brings cereals and runs our Breakfast Club every second Monday. A healthy breakfast is an important start to the day, helping students stay focused, energised and ready to learn. An enormous and heartfelt thank you goes to Mr Wall and all our dedicated staff volunteers for their generous donations of goods and time that keep our Breakfast Club running smoothly. Families who would like to donate eggs are welcome to contact the school.
Choir
Students from Year 2 to 6 are welcome to join our passionate school choir, fostering their love of singing and performing, achieving accolades at regional eisteddfod events and delivering moving pieces at a range of community events.
Culture Council & Kamilaroi Dance
Cultural pursuits are at the heart of our school-wide programs. Our Kamilaroi dancers perform at events both within the school and across the community, and NAIDOC is celebrated as a significant community event. Our Aboriginal Education Officer works across the entire school to raise awareness of local customs and practices, strengthen connection to Country, and foster a love of the Gamilaraay language in every classroom. Stage Three students who are eligible are invited to join our Culture Council, meeting weekly with their Cultural Ambassador, the Aboriginal Education Officer, and coordinating staff to deepen their understanding of local culture, customs, and language. Together, they develop initiatives to share this knowledge with other students throughout the school.
Excursions
Narrabri Public School encourages students to participate in a range of educational and recreational excursions across all year groups, designed to extend learning beyond the classroom and foster teamwork, independence, and personal growth. Excursions take place in Terms 3 and 4.
- Year 3 students attend a day trip to Sawn Rocks, exploring local environments and engaging in outdoor learning activities.
- Year 4 students take part in a two-day stay at Lake Keepit Sporting Adventure Park, participating in team-building exercises, water-based activities, and recreational challenges.
- Year 5 students visit Gulgong to learn about the gold rush, life in earlier times, and local historical sites.
- Year 6 students undertake a Canberra excursion, exploring national institutions, museums, and government facilities, gaining insight into Australia’s history, civics, and cultural heritage.
These excursions offer valuable opportunities for students to develop social skills, resilience, and a deeper understanding of the world around them.
Incursion
Narrabri Public School hosts a variety of incursions throughout the year, bringing engaging learning experiences directly into the school. These include visits from Health Harold, author visits, guest speakers, and performances by musical groups. Most incursions are generously supported by the school P&C and local community groups, such as the Ladies Lions Auxiliary, providing students with opportunities to explore new ideas, develop skills, and enjoy interactive, hands-on learning in a supportive school environment.
Gardening Gurus
NPS is the home of the Gardening Gurus, with students learning about environmentally sustainable practices, soil management, food production and preparation, as well as recycling during their scheduled sessions each term. Our primary and infants produce gardens are stunning, and there is always something on the grow, seeing students experimenting with a diverse range of fruits and vegetables and learning the life-long skills to grow their own food.
Leadership & Student Representative Council (SRC)
Student voice is strengthened across our school through a variety of innovative approaches. Students from Kindergarten to Year 6 have the opportunity to be voted onto our Student Representative Council, sharing their ideas on school initiatives for fundraising and making improvements to school grounds, programs, and practices. Eligible Stage Three students are invited to join our Culture Council, meeting weekly with their Cultural Ambassador, our Aboriginal Education Officer and coordinating staff to increase their knowledge of local culture, customs and language, designing initiatives to share this knowledge with other students across the school. Our 17 elected Year 6 student leaders meet three times a term with the Principal and Stage Three Supervisor, to review current school practice and make recommendations of areas for improvement or consult on ongoing projects.
Robotics & Technology
Technology to enhance learning, including a range of block-coding robotics, interactive platforms, and software programs are embedded into programs from Kindergarten to Year 6, supporting students to develop confidence as capable digital citizens.
