Friendship Friday
Each Friday, Narrabri Public School comes together for Friendship Friday, where students gather on the middle grass area between the infants and primary spaces, as well as the back oval, to enjoy lunch as a whole school. Classes and year groups are mixed, giving students the opportunity to socialise across different ages.
Swimming and athletics sports carnivals
At Narrabri Public School, our swimming and athletics carnivals are a highlight of the school year. Students aged 8 years and up are invited to participate in our competitive carnivals, with the opportunity to progress through to events held by the North West Schools Sports Association.
Our infants students enjoy a fun-filled sports day, taking part in a variety of engaging activity rotations designed to promote movement, teamwork, and enjoyment.
- Swimming Carnival – held in Term 1
- Athletics Carnivals – held across Terms 2 and 3
These events foster school spirit, encourage participation, and celebrate student achievement in a supportive and inclusive environment.
Easter Raffle and Parade
On the last days of Term 1, our school celebrates with a fun-filled Easter Parade and Raffle organised by the Canteen and P&C. Students are encouraged to design and create their own Easter hats at home to wear proudly in the parade. Families can donate prizes towards the raffle, which is always a successful fundraiser for our school. The celebrations conclude with the exciting P&C Easter Raffle draw.
NAIDOC Week
NAIDOC Week is celebrated in the last week of Term Two at Narrabri Public School. The school values, respects, and celebrates Aboriginal culture and students’ identities as an integral part of our school community. A range of activities is provided for students and the wider community, including class work and a special school ceremony featuring awards, dance, and music.
Harmony Week and Reconciliation Week
At Narrabri Public School, Harmony Week is celebrated in Term 2 with events in the library and classroom activities that promote inclusivity, respect, and understanding of cultural diversity.
Reconciliation Week is held in Term 3, with activities that deepen students’ knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture. On Friday of Reconciliation Week, the whole school comes together to play traditional Indigenous games, with primary classes competing for the Reconciliation trophy.
Book Week
Each year in Term 3, Narrabri Public School celebrates Book Week with a variety of activities that foster a love of reading and literature. A key highlight is the Book Week parade, where students dress as their favourite book characters and participate in class-based literacy activities. Families are invited to join us for a reading morning before the parade and are warmly encouraged to stay afterwards for our Friendship Friday lunch. These celebrations strengthen the connection between home and school while sharing the joy of books.
Excursions
Narrabri Public School encourages students to participate in a range of educational and recreational excursions across all year groups, designed to extend learning beyond the classroom and foster teamwork, independence, and personal growth. Excursions take place in Terms 3 and 4.
- Year 3 students may attend a day trip to Sawn Rocks, exploring local environments and engaging in outdoor learning activities.
- Year 4 students may take part in a two-day stay at Lake Keepit Sporting Adventure Park, participating in team-building exercises, water-based activities, and recreational challenges.
- Year 5 students may visit Gulgong to learn about the gold rush, life in earlier times, and local historical sites.
- Year 6 students may undertake a Canberra excursion, exploring national institutions, museums, and government facilities, gaining insight into Australia’s history, civics, and cultural heritage.
These excursions offer valuable opportunities for students to develop social skills, resilience, and a deeper understanding of the world around them.
Incursion
Narrabri Public School hosts a variety of incursions throughout the year, bringing engaging learning experiences directly into the school. These include visits from Health Harold, author visits, guest speakers, and performances by musical groups. Most incursions are generously supported by the school P&C and local community groups, such as the Ladies Lions Auxiliary, providing students with opportunities to explore new ideas, develop skills, and enjoy interactive, hands-on learning in a supportive school environment.
Intensive Swimming Program
Narrabri Public School offers an intensive swimming program for students in Year 2 and Year 6 during Weeks 7 to 9 of Term 4. The program focuses on developing water safety skills, confidence in the water, and swimming technique. The program is fully supported by both the school and the P&C, and is run by our staff who are certified by Swim Australia. This ensures students participate in structured, practical lessons in a supportive environment and build lifelong swimming skills.
